Potty Training Essentials

Hello fellow potty trainers!

We are currently potty training our 25 month old son. I thought I would gather some essentials for you if you are in the same boat! Links are included on the pictures of each item for you as well. đź’•

We did the three-day method. Baylor ended up getting sick on the third day - of course - so our 3 days turned into about 5 days of naked running around the house and not taking any outings.

Here are some items we used to make the process as smooth as possible!

  1. Toddler Potty Seat

Baylor picked out this Paw Patrol one from Target! Linked one is from Amazon.

Baylor honestly likes going just on the big potty about half the time too.

Before he needs to go I ask if he wants to use the Paw Patrol seat or the “Big Potty” and he gets to choose that way! I help hold him up if he uses the big potty seat but I find it can be easier especially for number 2!

Here is a plain option for the neutral loving families!

And a portable, foldable option for on the go!

2. Timer

We have Baylor go every 15-30 minutes.

This timer is a fun way for kids to get involved in the process! They can twist it themselves, and when it goes off they know it is “potty time”!

3. Reward System

Choose something your child is motivated by - stickers, food, screen time, etc.

For Baylor, it was definitely treats. We chose very small treats since we knew he would be getting several throughout the day.

Successful Number 1 - one M&M

Successful Number 2 - 1 fruit snack pouch (usually only once a day and I typically don’t buy fruit snacks so these are special for him)

Accident - run him to the potty and say “You have to tell mommy when you need to go pee or poop in the potty. Pee and poop goes in the potty. We will try again in a few minutes!”

4. Bathroom Basket

I made a little basket for the bathroom so I have everything I need in there at a split second’s notice.

I filled ours with fresh pairs of underwear, some flushable toddler wipes, and a book.

I don’t typically have B sit on the potty for too long, but its good to have some entertainment in there just incase! I have also seen where moms have a dry erase marker for toddlers to sit on the potty backwards and draw on the seat while they wait.

5. Lots of liquids!

Baylor is OBSESSED with these low sugar Good2Grow juices with the dinosaur lids.

These make it easy for him to get some liquids down to ensure he is going potty and being successful frequently! I even fill them with water when he is done because he loves them so much! They have many other characters too seen at Walmart and Fry’s (kroger).
