My baby is already one!

We had a blast celebrating Baylor’s first birthday together with all of our friends and family for the first time in his life! It was a little bit of a culture shock for him to be around so many people (see quarantine baby facial expression) but he did so well and felt the love from so many people.

The Theme

After days of scanning Pinterest for the most perfect 1st birthday theme, I landed on “First Trip Around the Sun” as my favorite. Here is my 1st Birthday Pinterest Board if you are interested in some inspo! I was tired of seeing the same “boy” themed parties (baseball, jungle, Mickey Mouse) and thought this was such a cute gender neutral theme that was different than I had seen before! Here is my blog post on Baylor’s astronaut cake smash if you missed it!

Etsy is your friend

I used a modern, cute space theme from an Etsy shop for his high chair banner and a time capsule letter writing activity. Here is the shop I used for all the cute watercolor planet themed documents.

Lemon Lane Market

My amazing friend Christa made us these shirts! She is opening her own Etsy shop called Lemon Lane Market in June 2021.

The Preparation

The two main things I for sure wanted to have after choosing the theme were fun spacey cookies and a balloon arch to match. I rallied up my best baker friends to create these adorable space themed cookies about 3 weeks in advance. I froze the cookies until the party and they still tasted amazing!

The balloons pictured are from Amazon and only 17 bucks - linked here. They were so affordable and the perfect mix of pastels. I have about 100 leftover still too.

I got the astronaut balloon from Target for just 3 dollars! SO cute. My friend Marci is a balloon arch making queen and put this bad boy up in just a few hours the night before. I think it turned out great.

The Cake Smash - Take Two

If you read the smash cake blog post, you already know that Baylor is NOT a fan of cake. Or smashing cake for that matter. He was pretty hysterical during his photo shoot which was equal parts hilarious and heartbreaking. I thought he might react differently in his high chair, but it turns out he just doesn’t like cake! We even gave him a fork so the icing didn’t get on his hands, but it was not a success yet again. I guess this is a good problem for us to have. It will be so funny to tell him all about how much he hated cake as a baby. I am interested to see if that remains true in the years to come!

Reunited with family and friends

As I mentioned before, Baylor has only seen family and friends in small doses up until this point in his life due to COVID. He didn’t even see family without a window between them until he was about 1 month old. This party was a bit of a sensory overload for him for about the first hour, but he eventually warmed up and had so much fun. Sometimes he still has a hard time with people other than Matt or I holding him, but I was surprised to see him letting others interact with him at the party, how it should be!

I am grateful we were all able to get together and that everyone has remained healthy and safe following our get together. It was such a special time considering us not really being able to celebrate him until now. We will cherish this memory forever and remember it as the time we all reunited! Thank you to everyone who made it out - we love you all, always, and a privileged to have you as our village to help raise this sweet boy.
