baby’s first music class!

Last week, we went to baby music class for the first time! We visited Musicology in Chandler, AZ and had the most fun experience. Baylor has not been around other babies his age since the pandemic began and I was so excited to see how he would react.

Parachute

Remember those parachutes you used to play with un elementary school PE class? We started class with one of those. All the babies were invited to shake rattles and explore the toys and each other before the session started. I love that the teacher gave the little ones time to warm up with each other. Baylor was one of the only newcomers to the group, but he instantly felt welcomed!

Growing our social skills

Baylor proved to be one of the more energetic kids in the bunch. He was all over the place! I am sure he was overwhelmed with all the friends he met that were his size along with the new toys and instruments he got to play. I can’t wait to see how his social skills improve in the coming weeks. Being a quarantine baby, he does not have the social experiences other babies might usually have at this point in their life. It was so fun to see him interacting with the other babies.

Safety first

All parents wore masks during class time. The class is limited to about 7 kids and one parent. The teacher did a great job encouraging babies to explore with one another in a safe way. Some babies would go up to other parents even and interact with them during different activities.

This picture was taken during the ball rolling song. We learned how to use our ball as a drum. It really is fascinating to see how babies really are natural drummers!

Overall thoughts

All in all, the facility and class session proved to be amazing for the little ones. They used all kinds of songs, instruments (not pictured - we were having too much fun!) and routines that give babies an amazing structured play experience that integrates art.

If you know me personally, you know I taught at an Arts Integrated Elementary School for the last 4 years, so this aspect of play and learning is really important to me! They also hold themed classes for a few weeks at a time. We were able to learn some African songs at our Safari themed session. I love how they included music from other cultures already at our first impression class. I was so impressed.

Your first class at Musicology is FREE! We had no idea this was a possibility until a friend told us about it. There is no pressure to sign up either! The teachers send out an email and give you 24 hours to hold a spot with your child’s age group. If you don’t sign up, there is always next session. I believe they hold classes for 9 week sessions with the same group if kids. We are very late to the spring session, but our class has been pro-rated for the remaining 3 weeks.

If you are interested in taking a class and you live in Arizona, there are several locations! They teach classes ranging from newborns all the way to 4 years old. Here is a link to their website!

We can’t wait to keep you updated on our journey of socializing our quarantine baby! Have the best week!
