we are going to Miami, baby!

Alright, so I was very VERY skeptical about committing to go on this trip for many reasons I am sure you can also imagine if you are a mom of a toddler. But, here we are.

Matt has a conference he is attending with his business partner and his girlfriend (she was dying for me to join her so she wouldn’t be all alone in the airbnb) next week in Miami, Florida. I have only been to Miami once, and it was near the port for our honeymoon cruise. Let’s just say I didn’t get the greatest first impression. I was not jumping for joy that this was the place he was going so I figured I would just stay home. Then I realized he would be gone for 6 whole days and started reconsidering. My two thoughts were: stay home for 6 days with the baby and slowly go insane and increase anxiety OR go to the beach for 6 days on a fun but probably chaotic adventure with a new friend and induce anxiety and bring backup AKA my grandma (God bless her!). I chose the latter and am hoping for a fun adventure!

It’s a bird, its a plane!

My first worry was about the plane ride, understandably. It is about 4 hours and 45 minutes and Baylor is ALL over the place at this point in his development. I am looking for all the plane tips for toddlers at the moment. I have bought lots of snacks and am planning on downloading several shows and a movie or two to keep him busy. We also bought him his own seat so that we will have a row to ourselves. I hope this will help with all the extra crap we will have with us, diaper changes if necessary, and so he can have his own space. I have also read about having the baby suck on something during take off and landing. He will have his pacifier and a bottle probably during these times. I am definitely nervous, but I figure he will have to get on a plane at some point if we are wanting to travel as a family often like we hope to. Stay tuned for all the flight tips and tricks. I will do a whole blog post on that when we return.

ALL the baby crap

I realize that traveling, especially flying with a baby is not always ideal, especially because of all the stuff that comes along with them. Car seat, stroller, sound machine, pack n play, diaper bag, diapers, wipes… the list goes on. Thankfully I found a site where you can rent baby equipment from locals. It is called BabyQuip and we are planning on renting a carseat and possibly pack n play from them instead of dragging them around with us. Again, stay tuned on all that!

Let’s go to the beach, beach

The one thing I am stoked for Baylor to do is go to the beach! He went once when he was 4 months old but mostly just napped that trip. We went to San Diego and everything was still very shut down due to COVID. This time, I think he will LOVE the sand, waves and everything that comes with the beach experience. We went on a playdate the other day to a pool that had sand and waded in slowly like the shore. He was obsessed to say the least. I will keep you updated on all the baby beach tips and tricks in an upcoming blog post, too!

Overall, I am super excited to spend time with a new friend in a new city alongside my little one and grandma for support! We can’t wait to enjoy the sun and sand and have a fun time out with another couple while grandma babysits here and there.

I am SO proud of my husband and everything he is accomplishing and I am grateful we have the opportunity to go on trips like this with him! I will be taking next week off blog posts but will be back with alllllll the great tips and experiences for you the week of June 14th.

Happy summer and vacationing! <3
