miami children’s museum

One of my favorite things that we did in Miami was visit the Miami Children’s Museum!

How it’s Organized:

To give a ticket to the museum, you go to the Miami Children’s Museum website. You will purchase your tickets and look at the two hour blocks to decide when to go. Because of COVID, they have people attending only come during 2 hour time frames, but I thought that was plenty of time!

Highlights

What I loved about this museum was all the different rooms inside that related to the real world. Kids got to explore a bank, grocery store, construction sight, fire truck, cruise boat, and more. Kids were encouraged to use costumes for real-life play which was so adorable. My favorite room we visited was the vet/adoption clinic for animals. They had stuffed animals in their kennels and tools for kids to help take care of the animals. This room was jam packed for sure!

Another thing I loved was the interactive exhibits such as the fishing/ocean room and the mini Carnival cruise boat. We are going on a cruise this winter so it was adorable to see how Baylor reacted to some of the things he will see on the ship. This room had a puppet show set up and music for dancing on the “lido deck”.

The museum had scheduled activities throughout the day that contained rich arts content and collaboration. Baylor was too young to partake in the dance workshop and glass blowing activities, but they also had a story time and other fun crafts to do in classrooms. We mostly just let him be a toddler and explore on his own this time. This months theme was Pride and featured LGBTQ+ artists. So amazing!

Music was a large focus of this museum as well. Coming from teaching an arts integrated academy, I appreciated the hands on approach with musical instruments and creative freedom. The big piano was a huge hit with Baylor, as well as the drums that he is used to seeing in his. weekly music class. We loved it all.

Is it worth it?

I would definitely recommend this museum to anyone going to Miami with kids! It is conveniently right off the freeway near downtown and is affordable. Kids under 1 year are free.

After having this experience I am super excited to see other museums here in Arizona and across the US with Baylor! He loved every second. We will definitely visit again the next time we are in Florida!
