*Dollar Tree* Edible Garden Sensory Play
Happy Spring!
We are kicking off my favorite month of the year with a fun sensory experience! Think of that “worms in dirt” dessert from your childhood - but ✨sensory bin ✨ style.
I never claim for this to be something your child to eat all the time, but its definitely fun once in a while 😉 .
Here’s what you need! I found all of the items at the dollar tree!
chocolate pudding (prepared) - I used 1 box
*sugar free would be great if you can find it
disposable or plastic bin to make the garden in
cocoa pebbles
fake flowers
green coconut flakes (food coloring and coconut )
gummy worms or toy bugs
garden shovel or scoops
plastic table cloth for easy clean up
Learning and Exploring
Obviously sensory play is already a valuable experience but if you want to amp up the learning here are some things to focus on!
Colors and Textures
Talk with your little one about what colors they see. Emphasize the feeling of the materials you are using - are they smooth? Sticky? How do they smell? Use the 5 senses to enhance the experience for older kids.
Age Appropriate Vocabulary
For my two year old, I introduced the words: “dig”, “worms”, “garden” and “dirt”.
He already knows a handful fo colors and is obsessed with flowers so we had conversation about those too!
