Potty Training Round 2 - What is working!

Hello, hello.

It has been a while since I have actually written on here thanks to pregnancy, toddlerhood, the holidays and potty training! Wowzers it has been busy.

We are due with baby number two in April and Baylor also turns 3 in April so we have a checklist of things we would ideally have accomplished by then.

  1. Potty Training

  2. Getting rid of binky

  3. Big boy bed transition

So, here are somethings that are working for us and the steps we have taken to get there! He is not completely trained by any means, but he does well at home!

He wears only underwear at home except a pull up during nap a at and at night. We are trying to get to the point where we can be in public in undies, but he has had a few accidents so far trying that.

A new incentive we are trying this time is his potty chart. If you follow me at all, you know Baylor is ALL about dinosaurs. Find a chart your little is interested in! They have so many for just a couple dollars on Etsy to download like this one, or you can make your own!

Every time Baylor goes pee, he gets one green dot (we use our bingo stampers, but you could use a marker, stickers, anything really). When he goes poop on the toilet, I give him 2 stamps that are purple. He knows the difference between the colors and the significance.

Once he reaches 7 potties in the toilet, he gets a prize! I have a bin hidden with dollar store goodies - stickers, bubbles, dinosaurs, balls, etc. that he can choose from each time. This seems to be super motivating!

Another incentive we give Baylor is candy. I am not above bribery. lol.

  • Each time Baylor pees he ALSO gets one M&M.

  • If he poops he can have a few M&Ms or a bigger piece of Hershey’s chocolate.

Again, find what motivates your child! If you don’t want to use sugar, don’t!

I suggest if you do, it be very small amounts because they will pee SEVERAL times a day. Baylor loves to get to choose what color he gets each time also! Of course I had to make it a learning moment. ;)

Here’s what it looks like in the flesh.

Invite a friend!

One other thing we did differently this time was have a friend over who was already potty trained. This was SO motivating for Baylor! He saw his friend using the potty so that made him want to too!

He loves to wear the boxer/compression short type underwear “like daddy” as well.

We are still venturing out to going potty in public. This has been a challenge. We make sure to go potty before we leave but still have mostly been wearing pull ups in public just incase. He has had an accident in his carseat and that was not to fun to clean up. I will keep you all updated!

Let me know if you try any of these tips on my instagram @motherhoodbymalorie. Love you all! Happy Potty Training!
