my first time away from my baby - San Francisco recap
Malorie Beard
If you know me personally, you know I live, breathe and would die for Taylor Swift. I am a hardcore Swiftie and I am not ashamed! This past weekend I went on a spontaneous trip to San Francisco with my new friend Felicia. She asked me if I would want to go to a Taylor Swift Club Night there and I could not resist!
Now, of course I had reservations at first because I had not yet spent a night away from Baylor in the 15 months he has been alive. I figured it was probably time, and I know many people spend nights away from their babies much earlier than this. I knew he would be fine with my husband, and I honestly was excited to have some much needed girl time. I also thought it would be a great opportunity for Matt to bond with Baylor since he works so much and they don’t get much alone time together!
My trip started off on a rocky note, as I was packing up to leave for the airport, Baylor threw my phone across the kitchen and cracked the screen ALMOST to the point where I couldn’t use it. Thankfully it lasted the weekend and I was able to get a new one once we got back. I tried to facetime him one day and he just bawled and grabbed Matt’s phone and it was heartbreaking. I think being out of sight and out of mind was best for him! I know he had fun hanging out with Matt and my grandma while Matt had places to be. So grateful for them.
Overall, I thought the trip was successful! We had a blast at Taylor Swift Night. However… San Francisco was not at all what I imagined it to be. We had several scary encounters with homeless people and angry Uber drivers, but we survived. I hear it is not the same as it once was which is sad for so many reasons!
I won’t go into much detail, but at one point we we being chased by a very drunk homeless man carrying an empty champagne bottle shouting inappropriate things at us. We found a security vehicle and stayed safe with an adorable old security guard until an Uber arrived. That was just one of our interesting encounters, but let’s focus on the good!
We were able to take a bridge to bridge cruise that sailed passed Alcatraz and to the Golden Gate Bridge and Bay Bridge and back. This was a relaxing experience we both enjoyed. We also got to visit the Boudin Sourdough Factory and restaurant, Ghirardhelli Square, and China Town (which was also interesting, but had very cute photo opps.)
My favorite place we went to was called the Palace of Fine Arts. It felt like I was in Italy with the gorgeous pillars and lush greenery surrounding us. It was so beautiful!
I was so happy to be able to take this trip and become closer with a new friend in a new city! I don’t regret leaving at all, but of course I was excited to get back to my baby after 2 nights apart from him. Cheers to fun memories!
